  • The Rise of communism: Navigating the Red Scare in hollywood

    House of Un-American Activities Committee

U.S. citizens are faced with the fear that communism will soon take over America, and their paranoia is causing a major social and economic divide. This committee is set in 1947, just as it has been confirmed that multiple Hollywood actors are in support of communism. The House of Un-American Activities Committee is investigating those who oppose the U.S. government, but many actors have refused to testify. This committee will debate the constitutionality and ethics of the HUAC’s work, and delegates will offer unique perspectives and solutions to put an end to the rise of communism.

    Chair: Audrey Pardee

  • Knights of the Round Table: The fall of Camelot

King Arthur, divine ruler of the Kingdom of Logres, founded the Knights of the Round Table to establish equality, diplomacy, and justice throughout the kingdom. However, tensions have arisen as the people of Logres have begun to question King Arthur’s power. An anonymous letter has been sent out from “The Grail’s Chosen One”, threatening the king to step down from his throne. The Knights of the Round Table must determine who deserves the power to rule and to hold the Holy Grail, and they must decide how to go about investigating and eradicating this threat to reinstate peace throughout the kingdom.

    Chair: Luke Silvers

  • Zombie Apocalypse Virus Outbreak

A highly contagious global virus labeled the T-Virus has created panic and chaos throughout the world. Riots have been reported in which the subjects are exhibiting extreme behavior such as violence, hysterics, and cannibalism. As authorities lack almost any knowledge of the extent of the infection, public fear is growing. Specialists believe that the virus was intentionally created, and more conspiracies are growing as the virus spreads. In this committee, understanding the origin is necessary as delegates work together to eliminate the spread of the T-Virus before more and more casualties occur.

    Chair: Ollie Tramontana

  • Yugoslavia Crisis: The Siege of Sarajevo

With tensions arising from the Siege of Sarajevo under Bosnian forces, civilian lives and the risk of any further damage are in jeopardy. Recently, the media has put the entire world’s focus on the horrific aftermath of the conflict. A global call for peace is present, with the U.S.A. and E.U. beginning to meet in an effort to prevent a global catastrophe, but the ongoing war shows little signs of stopping. In this committee, delegates will collaborate in order to end any rising conflict and reduce any ongoing violence, as the entire world holds its breath in anticipation of an even greater battle.

    Chair: Dottie McClure

  • The Matrix: Collapse of the Matrix Crisis

Humans have lived years inside the Matrix, acting as batteries for the machines. Now, Neo and the rest of the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar have taken back Earth and control over the Matrix. Neo has gathered the matrix’s major world leaders, including presidents and religious officials, together to discuss what to do now. Currently, humans remain in the matrix unaware of the guise. It is up to you and the other delegates to decide how to deliver the news and safely return to the real world, or if it is better to remain in the lie. However, delegates must act quick, as glitches and other anomalies are beginning to reveal themselves to humans remaining in the Matrix.

    Chair: Aisling Maxwell

  • The Nicaraguan Revolution

The time is February 1981. Two years prior, the 1979 Nicaraguan Revolution led to the ousting of the U.S.-backed Somoza dictatorship and the eventual rise of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN). The FSLN is a socialist movement heavily aligned with Cuba and the Soviet Union, and as a result of their rise in power, the U.S.-backed Contras launched an armed insurgency, marked by civil rights violations and Cold War tensions. By the time of the conference, Nicaragua was governed by the leftist Junta of National Reconstruction. Despite lacking elected leadership, the Junta began implementing reforms targeted towards literacy, agriculture, and nationalization. This crisis serves as a flashpoint between communism and capitalism; as such, delegates must debate the many ethical and diplomatic dimensions of the conflict while collaborating to ease tensions within the region.

    Chair: Adelyne Mozisek

  • Copyright Collapse Crisis

U.S copyright and patent records have disappeared, resulting in a loss of intellectual property protections and leaving many creators without royalties. Furthermore, AI tools are freely distributing uncredited work, calling into question the validity of the current system. Outdated copyright laws, recent technological innovations, and alleged Russian cyberattacks are the cornerstone of this crisis, and delegates must decide whether to rebuild copyright protections or shift towards the open public domain.

    Chair: Pya Sipkowski

  • The Troubles (Bloody Sunday) Crisis

The Troubles and Bloody Sunday are prime examples of how religious political conflict can persist, which is shown through many other disputes like the Sunni-Shia tensions today. However, Bloody Sunday occurred due to centuries of British domination and religious and political polarization. Ireland went through many changes in the time leading up to Bloody Sunday, which made the Irish population increasingly anti-British. Delegates will be required to address this massive conflict as it is taking place in 1972 and the conflicts after. Delegates are encouraged to find solutions that their side is demanding and consider a union between Northern Ireland and the Republic, military action, or diplomacy, and whether external intervention is needed.

  • The Darfur Genocide Crisis

The Darfur Genocide has devastated many, leaving people displaced, villages destroyed, and women and children assaulted or dead. Years of conflict between the Northern and Southern areas of Sudan have done little to quell the violence. The Darfur Genocide has exacerbated once peaceful relations between ethnic groups. Delegates must tackle this issue with urgency as they come together to implement potential laws and solutions towards the goal of peace in the region.

    Chair: Calleigh Corliss
